Questions worth asking first.
Does it work on YouTube?
No. The Chrome, Edge, Brave and Opera builds block YouTube outright, because the Chrome Web Store rejects extensions that touch it. The Firefox build has no such block.
Can it download Netflix, Disney+ or Prime Video?
No, and it will not pretend to. Those services use DRM, and VideoGo stops with an error rather than writing a broken file. Only clear-key AES-128 HLS — the kind used to keep casual copying down, not to enforce licences — is handled.
Does my video get uploaded anywhere?
No. Every fetch, decrypt and remux happens inside your browser tab. There is no VideoGo server in the path, which is also why a download runs at whatever speed the original site gives you.
Why is there a size limit on some downloads?
Files that need remuxing — MPEG-TS to MP4, MKV output, audio extraction, or joining a separate video and audio track — go through a 32-bit build of ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, which caps out near 1.6 GB. Plain MP4 and fragmented-MP4 downloads skip that engine entirely and have no ceiling.
Will the video be re-encoded?
Never for video. Streams are copied into their new container untouched, so quality is identical to the source and the wait is seconds rather than hours. MP3 audio is the one exception, and it says so before it starts.
Which browsers does it run in?
Chrome, Edge, Brave and Opera share one build. Firefox has its own, because Firefox runs the video engine directly in the extension instead of in a separate document.
